Diet regimen in summers


· Summer results in loss of moisture from our body, hence water intake need to be optimum. Include those foods in our diets which have high water content.

· Focus more on foods which are light to digest e.g. barley, jowar, rice, wheat phulka, Green gram (mung),Lentils (masoor) etc.

· Among vegetables include the cucumber, tomato, bottle gourd, lettuce, cabbage, spinach etc which are light in digestion and have high water content. One can enjoy fruits like lime, orange, sweet lime, water melon, musk melon etc.

· Avoid caffeinated beverages as they have dehydrating effect on body. If you are addicted to tea or coffee, drink water prior to its consumption.

· During summers one feels like having more liquids than solids. Hence focus on drinks which will give nourishment and help combat heat. Coconut water, Buttermilk, sugarcane juice, barley water, Vegetable juice like tomato, cucumber juice, fruit juices like watermelon juice.

· In summer, Ice creams and cold drinks should be consumed minimum as they result in throat problems that could make the body susceptible to some other diseases.

· Ice water should be replaced with comparatively cold water. Sherbet/Squashes of 'khus', 'sandal', 'camphor' or 'rose' are beneficial in summers. They have cooling effect on body.

· Limit intake of Bajra, Garlic, Mustard, Garam masala, fried foods etc.

· Eat light, nutritious and non fatty meals and don’t forget to maintain optimal hygiene levels.
