Monsoons are welcome by everyone, as they bring relief after a blazing summer. In this season the digestive power is weak after the heat of summer season which causes a weakening effect on the body. Our body is more susceptible to health issues in rainy season, because monsoon reduces the immunity power of our body. Our body constantly gets affected with allergies, infections, indigestion problems, so we must keep our body resistant against such diseases.
In monsoon hunger is less. Bodily strength is reduced. So the following rules are to be observed:
Street food or any type of food that is prepared in bulk needs to be avoided,else there is possibility that it upsets your stomach.
Never eat if you are not feeling hungry, this is an important thing to remember in monsoons. Doing so results in indigestion problems and illness.
Vegetarians need to eat fresh vegetables boiled and flavored with coriander, cumin, salt and asafetida.
Have buttermilk flavored with ginger and pepper
Honey mixed with water is good
Eat Papad roasted on fire. Avoid fried foods.
Among green vegetables amaranths is very good. Stuffed Brinjal, Snake gourd, stuffed ribbed gourd are also good. Pithale (a Maharashtrian dish – regular staple food of farmers daily diet) made of horse gram is beneficial. Use of garlic can add on the flavor.
In this season the use of Indian gooseberry jam, pickles such as sweet pickle, lime pickle should be limited.
Avoid eating large meals and also heavy to digest foods.
The monsoon season makes your skin and scalp dry; therefore, it is vital to have an oil massage. Also, as per Ayurveda, the monsoon tends to weaken the body, thereby, rejuvenating it with oil massage is necessary. Oil massages also help in reducing stress. The wet season makes you retain water and an oil massage can help improve the blood circulation.
