Health Benefits
Treats stomach disorders: Like acid reflux, flatulence and indigestion. Consuming a paste made of 1⁄4 tsp asafoetida powder and 2 tsp lemon juice with first morsel of food helps in the secretion of digestive juices. You can also improve digestion by mixing 1⁄4 tsp asafoetida powder, 1⁄4 tsp salt and 1 tsp cumin seeds in a glass of buttermilk and consuming after a meal.For overall well-being, add 1⁄2 tsp asafoetida powder to a glass of warm water and drink on an empty stomach.
For stings: Asafoetida is helpful in treating bee stings and scorpion bites. A thick paste of asafoetida can be applied on the affected area and left to dry. To make the paste, rub a small piece of asafoetida on a stone along with little water. It also neutralizes the poison and reduces pain and inflammation.
For toothache and cavities: Fill 1⁄4 tsp of asafoetida powder in the cavity of a decayed tooth. Add a pinch of camphor or clove powder. This will reduce pain and kill the germs in the cavity.
For ear ache: Heat coconut oil in a small pan and add a small piece of asafoetida and let it melt. Cool and apply the oil inside the ears with your fingers or cotton. Keep a hot-dry cloth behind the ear.
To ease menstrual pain: Sauté asafoetida in a kadhai and powder it. Add it to buttermilk along with little sugar and consume.

Should be consumed in minimal amounts.
Excessive consumption acts like poison in the body and can induce vomiting.
Beauty
To treat pimples, acne and scars, mix a pinch of asafoetida powder with water and apply a thin paste on the affected area. Do a small patch test before applying.
To get rid of blemishes, apply a face mask of asafoetida powder and yoghurt and then wash it off.
